Hello everyone!! We have some great news! We conducted a fundraiser at our schools to raise money for The Giving Tree project. We had a spirit week during the month of January and we are delighted to announce that we raised more than $1,000 in total! We are so thankful to the students and parents of our schools for their contribution and support towards our project. We would also like to give a shoutout to our school principals as well as the president of Sahasra Deepika for helping us bring our project to life! The money we raised will truly help the children of the Sahasra Deepika Institute get a better education and look towards a brighter future. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to contribute towards our project. We will also be having more fundraisers in the future, so don't forget to check our blog for updates on our events. Thank you so much for your support towards our project!

Happy New Year 2019! In the new year, Tara and I will be having a fundraiser at both of our schools to raise money for the upcoming spelling bee at Sahasra Deepika through The Giving Tree. We will be having a spirit week as well as a donor's choice during the month of January. The proceeds of this fundraiser will go towards supporting children's education and also as a prize for the winner of the 2019 Sahasra Deepika Spelling Bee. We are excited to launch this fundraiser, and we will appreciate any donations or support from the community. Thank you, and stay tuned for more info about our upcoming events!
-Tanvi The Sahasra Deepika Spelling Bee is part of the outreach program for underprivileged children from Bangalore's schools. The winner of the spelling bee competition is granted a college scholarship and a chance for a bright future. The children who participate are without a vast knowledge of the English language. The Sahasra Deepika Institute wants to give these children an opportunity to be on stage, and to gain confidence through such competitions . This bee is the reason why The Giving Tree decided to start this project as my sister, Tanvi and I have a passion for spelling . The Giving Tree wants to give the gift of education to bright children who have a passion to learn and grow . #beethefuture
-Tara Lisa Heydlauff was once asked by Oliver, age 7, in one of the classes where she was teaching in the UK – ‘What is it like to go to school in India?’ This triggered something inside her to such an extent that she packed her bags and came to India in pursuit of an answer. Going to school and affording a good education is a far-fetched dream for underprivileged kids in some parts of India. This is where The Giving Tree comes in to help such children and give them opportunities for a brighter future. We have tied up with Sahasra Deepika, which is an institute that provides a caring environment and good education for girls that come from such families. You can donate today to The Giving Tree and make a difference for these children!
Read about the stories at this link... In 1997 an Indian American businessman had a radical idea about how to fight generational poverty and founded a special school in India to make it happen. It's called Shanti Bhavan, and it's the subject of a new Netflix documentary called Daughters of Destiny, which premiers Friday.
Shanti Bhavan accepts only the poorest students, those who come from families that live on less than $2 a day—95 percent of its students are in the Dalit caste. They come to the school when they're four years old and stay until they graduate from high school, getting a better education than they could possibly have gotten in their poor, rural communities, and living in a stable environment designed to help them thrive. The concept of Shanti Bhavan was inspiring to us as it motivated us to give more... Learn more about Shanti Bhavan here Hello, everyone! Welcome to The Giving Tree, a project started by me and my sister, Tara. Our mission is to help The Sahasra Deepika foundation in India by funding their education as well as spelling bees. The Sahasra Deepika Foundation is an organization that helps underprivileged kids succeed in life by helping them realize their dreams and reach the stars. In order to help them do this, we have started The Giving Tree where you can help out in your own way! We would appreciate donations of any kind and we will be hosting a few events over the next few weeks that you can join in. Check out our events page for more info. Over the next few weeks, we will be writing more blog posts to keep you informed. Hope you can join us in helping these young learners succeed! Stay tuned for more info.
